Welcome to ES PE

The ES PE dept. looks forward to a physically active healthy year ahead. We have four ES PE teachers. Noli Reloj, Bill Blankenship, Amanda Pekin and Holly Chapman. Our goal in PE is to help students develop the competencies and beliefs necessary for incorporating regular physical activity into their lives. Parents can play an important role in this process by being active on a regular basis with your child. Please support our program by ensuring your child has the correct footwear, PE uniform, water bottle and protective sun hat ready for PE. The PE blogs will provide you with an insight into our PE curriculum, weekly happenings and special events in addition to support for families to lead an active lifestyle.

Swim and Survive

ES PE classes will swim for approximately six weeks. This is divided into two blocks. One in 1st semester and another block in 2nd semester. We follow the Australian Swim and Survive program. This is a comprehensive swimming and water safety program that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity. Swim and Survive ensures that the essential components of personal survival and water safety are provided, in addition to a process of developing strong and effective swimming technique. Swim and Survive is delivered by qualified swimming and water safety instructors. Click on the image above to visit the Swim and Survive website for detailed information and skills being taught.

PE Central Challenge

The PE Central Challenge© is designed for 4th and 5th grade children to encourage them to practice a variety of motor skills, many of which are contained in our professions national standards (NASPE, 1995). The PE Central Challenge is not a one-time test, but rather an ongoing series of challenges that children can practice and improve upon. Children are given encouragement and many chances to complete each of the challenges--in class, at lunch, before or after school. All children who participate earn a participation certificate. Click on the above image to visit the PE central challenge website and check out the six challenges and begin practising!

Sports Day Friday February 24th 2012

This is a fantastic all day event with lots of fun games including an opening and closing ceremony. Parents and families are encouraged to attend and participate. Sports day is a celebration of an active lifestyle. Sports Day reminds us that physical activity can provide wonderful opportunities for social interaction, challenges, health and fun. Students participate as a class in a variety of activities that promote teamwork and cooperation, and provide an opportunity to show parents their growing repertoire of motor skills. Our focus is on having fun in an active setting. Sports day is also a wonderful opportunity for students to apply sportsmanship skills learnt in PE lessons.
